Spring Fling Kidlit Contest 2022

Kidlit writers know spring has officially arrived when Katlin (@KaitlynLeann17) and Ciara's ((@CiaraONeal2) writing contest opens. For this fun contest writers must write a story for kids ages 12 or under that is inspired by a spring-themed gif. For an extra challenge, the story must be 150 words or under...definitely a writing workout! Learn more about the contest here:https://sites.google.com/view/springflingwritingcontest

Spring! Brake!

By Becky Kimbrough

146 words

Bear loved spring so much that Possum nicknamed him Spring.

“Yay! Spring Break’s named after ME!”

Their favorite spring activity was finding humans’ forgotten treasures in the forest.

“What’s this? Let’s give it a try!”

Wobble…wobble…THUNK.

“You've got this, Spring!” cheered Possum.

Wobble…wobble…CRASH.

“Again, Spring!”

Wobble…pedal….RIDE!

“Hooray!”

Spring pedaled faster…toward a hill…

Whoosh!

“Oh no! Watch out for that tree! Spring! Brake!” cried Possum.

Spring grinned. “I love Spring Break!”

“Spring! Brake!” Possum repeated.

What?” called Spring. “Sing? Cake?”

“Spring! Brake!” Possum gasped.

Finally, Spring heard Possum…

…and stopped just in time.

“Thank you, friend,” he whispered.

Possum beamed.

“The END?! No! It’s my turn!”

Wobble…wobble…pedal…ZOOM!

“I need speed!” called Possum…getting too close to the water ahead.

“POSSUM! BRAKE!” yelled Spring.

“I see the AWESOME LAKE! Wow!”

“Possum! BRAKE!”

“Yikes!” yelped Possum.

Squeeze…skid…STOP.

“Phew! Thank goodness for you, Spring!”

“Ha!” laughed Spring. “Thank goodness for spring…BRAKES!
