Delia and Dandy

Delia twirled through the garden.
“Where are the dandelions?” she asked. “They’re my favorite! In summer…they’ll be wishing clouds!”
“Sorry,” said Mom. “Gardeners come every Saturday.”
Delia scoured the garden for yellow.
“Ha! They missed one!”
“I’ll protect you, Dandy,” she whispered.
Next Saturday, Delia danced around Dandy, distracting the gardeners.
Phew! Only two more Saturdays until summer.
Luckily, it rained next week.
“No gardeners today!” Delia laughed.
The last Saturday of spring, Delia’s mom stopped her before she could check on Dandy.
“Time to go. We have errands...” said Mom.
“Be strong, Dandy!” Delia shouted.
And Dandy was!
But the following Saturday, Delia raced outside…
…and wasn’t so lucky.
Sniffle.
She headed inside.
Wait…what’s that?
White fluff poked through a crack in the driveway.
“Dandy! You escaped! You’re finally a wishing cloud!”
Delia inhaled…and wished…
Whoosh!
“Delia,” called Mom. “Should we get a puppy?”
Yes!
"Thank you, Dandy!"
