Woohoo! It's #FallWritingFrenzy time!

Many thanks to Kaitlyn Sanchez and Lydia Lukidis for hosting the ever-popular Fall Writing Frenzy contest! Check it out here: https://lydialukidis.wordpress.com/

For the contest, writers create a 200 word fall story or poem, inspired by a fall image (provided).

Thanks for reading my entry and best of luck to all participating this year!

Pumpkin Guts: An Ode to Mary Shelley

200 Words

“Aw, Frank, thanks for helping me find a pumpkin this year,” says Wally Werewolf.

I shrug.

Being Frankenstein is hard when you hate Halloween.

Dark nights are scary.

I always miss Mary. (Especially her stories!)

And icky-sticky pumpkin goo? EW.

“I’m only carrying the pumpkin. YOU carve.” I remind Wally.

We scour the pumpkin patch.

“Ooooh! See that one?” Wally shouts.

Squeak!

“Yikes! Did you hear that?” I hiss. “Let’s go. It’s getting dark.”

I clomp closer to Wally.

“Hey Frankenstein, if you help carve this year, this pumpkin will win the ghoul school’s jack-o-lantern contest.”

I shudder but nod.

“Anything to escape the dark!” I yelp.

Wally laughs as we scramble to our lair.

“I’ll cut the top,” he says. “Then, we SCOOP!”

I squinch my eyes…lift the top…

EEK! The pumpkin guts are moving!

“It’s ALIVE!” I shout.

Squeak! A fluffball leaps into my hand.

“It’s a—mouse.” says Wally.

“Ahhh!” I shriek.

My hand is shaky, but the mouse curls up.

Hmm. I prefer napping on Halloween too. Maybe she wants a bedtime story.

I pat her head.

“A new friend!” says Wally. “What will you name her?”

I smile.

“Mary. May her stories live forever.”

Squeak!
